Wedding Photographer in Switzerland: Are Travel Expenses Included? Here’s What You Need to Know

If you're currently planning your wedding, you've probably already come across this question:

Are travel expenses actually included in the wedding photographer's price—or are they an extra charge?

The answer is: It depends.
And that's exactly what often causes uncertainty.

Many couples don't realize:

  • Is the charge based on kilometers?

  • Are there additional charges for longer trips?

  • What actually counts as a “normal” work location these days?

In this post, we'll show you how things are typically done in the industry—and, most importantly, how we handle it, so you have a clear understanding from the start.

How are travel expenses calculated for wedding photographers?

There are various business models in the wedding industry:

1. Kilometer-based billing
Here, each kilometer driven is billed separately. Sometimes approximately 60 km are already included.

2. Flat-rate travel expenses
A fixed amount, regardless of the distance, is charged in addition in each case.

3. Included in the package price
. Travel expenses are already included in the total price—at least within a certain area.

For couples, the third option is the most appealing because it offers predictability and avoids hidden additional costs.

Our Philosophy: Transparent Pricing with No Surprises

It's important to us that you can focus on what really matters: your wedding day.

That's why round-trip transportation within our service area is already included in the package price.

👉 No complicated calculations
👉 No additional mileage charges
👉 No surprises later on

Our Service Area – What We Consider a “Swiss Wedding”

Instead of rigid mileage requirements, we take a practical approach:

👉 For us, any wedding within about a 3-hour drive of Zurich counts as a Swiss wedding.

Specifically, this means:

  • all of German-speaking Switzerland

  • the Lake Constance region

  • Many places in southern Germany (Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria)

  • Vorarlberg & Tyrol in Austria

  • Alsace in France

We regularly serve these regions—and they are an integral part of our service area.

A unique feature: Southern Switzerland

We're deliberately setting a limit to the south:

👉 The Gotthard Tunnel serves as our natural boundary.

The reason for this is quite simple:
Traffic around the Gotthard Pass can be very unpredictable, making reliable planning difficult. Therefore, it’s usually necessary to arrive the evening before, and a hotel stay is also required for the night of the wedding.

What happens with weddings outside our service area?

As soon as your wedding takes place outside this area, we refer to it as a destination wedding.

This applies, for example, to:

  • Weddings in Ticino (depending on the location)

  • Italy, Spain, Portugal, etc.

  • in general, locations outside the defined radius

We have separate destination wedding Packages for these events, since the effort involved (travel, planning, two nights at a hotel)—and usually the wedding planning itself—is somewhat different from a wedding in Switzerland.

Couples who get married abroad often want a more unique experience—for example, one that includes dinner the night before or a couple’s photo shoot the day after. That’s why we’ve created an exclusive Destination Wedding Pricing Guide.

Important: Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis

Even though we have clear guidelines, our policy is always:

👉 We review each request on a case-by-case basis.

That means:

  • We're checking the exact location

  • Consider accessibility and effort

  • Decide fairly whether your wedding still counts as a Swiss wedding or falls under the category of a destination wedding

This way, it remains transparent and easy for you to understand.

Why This Policy Benefits You

Our way of working offers you several clear advantages:

1. Planning certainty
You know right from the start what costs to expect.

2. Transparency
No hidden additional costs or complicated bills.

3. Flexibility
Locations in neighboring countries (Germany, Austria, France) are often available at no extra charge.

4. Experience
We are already familiar with many of these regions and know what matters most.

Conclusion: Clarity Instead of Surprises

The question about travel expenses is absolutely valid—and an important part of your planning.

We've deliberately kept our approach simple:

  • Our Swiss Pricing Guide applies within our service area

  • Outside our service area, our Destination Pricing Guide applies

This way, you can focus entirely on your wedding—without having to worry about extra costs.
